Therma Protect Plus

Therma Protect Plus is an Australian-made coating, applied here as a cork spray for interior and exterior walls, roofs, decks and patios. It’s cork bark ground into granules and sprayed on in a flexible Therma Protect Plus binder at around 3mm thick – thick enough to genuinely insulate and waterproof, not just change the colour of the wall.

Brick and render store heat all day and release it back into the house through the evening, which is why a west-facing room can stay hot long after the sun is down. Therma Protect Plus is built up to around 3mm as a cork spray, thick enough to slow that transfer, unlike paint, which is a fraction of a millimetre and does nothing for heat storage. It also carries genuine waterproofing, keeping moisture out of the wall while the coating holds.

Millions of sealed air pockets in cork trap air to slow heat transfer. Testing puts sprayed cork’s thermal conductivity at 0.058 W/mK, ten times slower than cement render. The Origin of Our Cork

Cork comes from the bark of the cork oak, Quercus suber, native to the Mediterranean. Bark is stripped by hand roughly every nine years, and the tree keeps standing and producing for well over a century.
